Programming

Below is a repository of my more complex or important software development projects. With the beginning of my programming endeavors coinciding nicely with the very first iteration of this website, I've been able to chronicle here the evolution of my learning process, from the very first major program I wrote in any programming language, up through today. Since I have chosen to leave out the simple and uninteresting projects, it is likely this part of the site will not update very frequently. Most of my programming work is now done for my current employer, but whenever a new major project comes along either at work or for fun, expect to see a bit about it appear here.

Pivot360º by Pivot Solutions Inc.

Pivot Solutions is my current employer, but also the first comapny to let me try my hand at "real world" software development. Pivot360º is an Instant Messaging platform designed to enable and optimize conversation and information flow for the financial sector. It focuses on enabling stock brokers and customers to quickly and easily exchange quotes and organize orders. By utilizing a unqiue and innovative technique for propogating data rich structured messages over multiple IM networks, Pivot360º allows the immense amount of information sent daily to be maniplulated, providing everything from more robust and informative data visualizations to automated transaction processing. Filesystem

This was a project fo Notheastern University College of Computer Science's Systems and Networking class. We were to implement the functionality of a basic, persistent filesystem. At the outset we were provided with code that simulated a hard disk, with appropriate measures taken to ensure the system the code was running on was protected. This was my first foray in to programming basic operating system level functionality, and also my first real program in C++. You can learn more about the project here.

Blackjack

Notheastern University College of Computer Science's Honors Freshman Seminar, when I took it, had the simple premis of creating a sufficiently sophisticated project of the student's choosing using Java and a GUI toolkit developed by NU CCIS professors. Having never written anything more complex than a 100 line program, I chose something that would be fairly simple logically, but still engaging and complex enough in other areas to grow my skill set. The result was a GUI based Blackjack application that simulates the basic mechanics of the game and the basic feel of sitting at a casino's blackjack table.
